West Brom have rejected a £1m offer from Watford for wantaway goalkeeper Ben Foster, who spent two seasons at Vicarage Road over 11 years ago. The 35-year-old is eager to leave the Hawthorns this summer following the club's relegation, and is said to be growing frustrated at Albion's firm stance over offers thus far, which seemingly led to his refusal to join the club's training camp in Portugal on Tuesday.  Foster is due to be disciplined by the Baggies for their absence at compulsory...

No ructions in Poland camp after Lewandowski comments, insists Kuba
Jakub Blaszczykowski insists there is no ill-feeling within the Poland squad after Robert Lewandowski pulled no punches with his assessment of their early World Cup exit. After a 2-1 loss to Senegal was followed by a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Colombia, Adam Nawalka's side are left with little more than pride to play for when they face Japan in their final Group H meeting in Volgograd on Thursday. Following the Colombia game, captain Lewandowski said the team possessed "too little quality", as they failed to build on their promising Euro 2016 campaign, when they reached the last eight and were only edged out by eventual champions Portugal on penalties. Blaszczykowski skirted around addressing Lewandowski's comments directly, but conceded the squad would have to accept any negativity that came their way. "When negative results appear, when we lose matches, there are problems," he told a media conference. "Then some untrue information was available. Today we don't have a lot of arguments in favour of us. We have to accept criticism and it's very easy to take it because our dreams never came true. "I personally believe that as a player who's spent time in the national team, the atmosphere has not changed. What has changed only is the fact that we lost. "We have to face it. All in all I think what is most important for us is we have to accept the criticism and resist all those difficult situations because our results were bad, we have not provided sufficient positive arguments. 1 - Poland are the first European nation to be eliminated from the 2018 World Cup. I would like to express my words of gratitude to all the people who have supported our team, especially in those very difficult moments. "I also thank journalists who were with us and devoted their private time to support us. You do not always receive the answers you'd expect to but in the last four years we created something very beautiful and we would like to say we're very bitter about losing two games. "I'd also like to say we invested a lot to be here and we had much greater expectations from ourselves but life goes on and the match tomorrow will be of great significance from the mental point of view because we need to demonstrate that we never give up as a team. "In the last four years we have provided a lot of positive emotions to football fans so we remember those moments and they'll be of great importance tomorrow. We want to show we're a bunch of guys who never give up."

COMMENT: Finding another 19 points is one thing. A couple hundred million quid can remedy that. But to really know the size of the challenge facing Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, just consider the dilemma Michael Carrick has handed him this summer.

Of course, Manchester City won't stand still. United may've managed to get Fred and young Diogo Dalot through the door, but City won't be sitting on their hands for long. And no matter what City do this summer, it's going to take more than throwing money at the problem for Mourinho to fix this one.

Costa strike keeps 2018 World Cup waiting for first goalless draw
Diego Costa's solitary strike in Spain's win over Iran on Wednesday ensured the 2018 World Cup has not seen a 0-0 draw during the first 20 games. The last time this happened was the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland, which did not see a goalless draw during the 26-game tournament. Russia 2018 got off to a fast start with the host nation crushing Saudi Arabia 5-0 on June 14, with Spain and Portugal then playing out a pulsating 3-3 draw the following day. While there has not been a glut of goals in the games since, fans can at least enjoy the fact they are yet to experience a scoreless stalemate. 0 - There have been no 0-0 draws in any of the 20 games at the 2018 World Cup so far - the last time that this happened was in 1954 (no 0-0's in the 26-game tournament). Argentina must lessen burden on Messi, says Guzman
Argentina goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman told his team-mates they needed to lessen the burden on star Lionel Messi at the World Cup. Messi, 30, will again lead the South American nation at the showpiece tournament, where they face Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria in Group D. But the Barcelona forward will be heavily relied upon as he looks for his first senior international trophy. Guzman, who replaced the injured Sergio Romero in Argentina's squad, said his team-mates needed to ease the pressure on Messi as much as they could. "Of course Leo is a very important figure to us. We have to know how to be with him. He has to let us too," he told a news conference Wednesday. "And we have to, somehow, take away the responsibility he already has. He feels it too. "We also have several figures to be a friend to him and make him feel good." I will try to lift him up if I see he's doubtful. And we hope to be able to celebrate, next to him, each game. "We have to be calm that Leo's fine." Looking for a first World Cup trophy since 1986, Argentina begin their campaign against Iceland Saturday.
