Guardiola credits assistant and De Bruyne for clever free-kick
Pep Guardiola says the credit for Kevin De Bruyne's free-kick against Cardiff City rests with the Belgian midfielder, with inspiration from one of his assistants. De Bruyne opened the scoring in Sunday's 2-0 FA Cup fourth-round win with a placed free-kick from 20 yards that beat goalkeeper Neil Etheridge after going under the wall. Guardiola had watched the Championship promotion hopefuls in the previous round against Mansfield Town and spotted that Cardiff's wall jumps on all defensive set-pieces. But the Manchester City manager refused to take credit for De Bruyne's quick thinking after his side maintained hopes of winning a quadruple, despite Leroy Sane's injury. "We showed them today," Guardiola said after City's victory. "My assistant – we saw the wall jump and after he decided. "You always give the information, but I'm sorry – the talent is the talent and the credit goes to Kevin." #PEP: I'm delighted with everything. How difficult it is to come to Championship sides who are topping the table. What they do they do really well, and the way we played. We play a lot of competitions and no rest and we are still fighting every game. I'm so proud. #ccfcvcity — Manchester City (@ManCity) January 28, 2018 De Bruyne scored a similar low free-kick at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League last season.  But the modest Belgium international played down his strike as he confirmed City are concerned about an injury to Sane that could keep the forward out for four weeks. "They told us before the game [about the Cardiff wall jumping] and we know all the details," De Bruyne said. "The wall was not nine metres [away] for me so it was very close so I thought it would be easier to hit it under rather than over. "The second half was strange because they didn't want to attack us and I think it was a little bit boring for half an hour. But that helped us conserve energy for the next game. "We knew how they played –we just tried to concentrate on our football and they caught us a few times and that is football but obviously Leroy Sane is injured now and hopefully that is not too bad."

Edinson Cavani given... miniature Edinson Cavani after breaking PSG record
You would expect Paris Saint-Germain - the hugely wealthy club located in the heart of the fashion world - to have something classy up their sleeves for big occasions. But there was something decidedly low-key about the commemorative gift received by Edinson Cavani after he became PSG's record goalscorer on Saturday. The Uruguay striker took his PSG tally to 157 goals with an early strike in the 4-0 Ligue 1 win over Montpellier, overtaking Zlatan Ibrahimovic's previous benchmark. Post-match, was it a magnum of champagne, or commemorative shirt that was presented to Cavani? No, it was a 2D, scaled down version of himself. Bizarre. Liverpool unlikely to make further January signings – Klopp
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted it was unlikely the Premier League club would make further signings in January. Philippe Coutinho left Liverpool earlier this month in a reported €160million move to Barcelona. While Klopp has added defender Virgil van Dijk to his squad, Liverpool continue to be linked to numerous other players. However, the German said it was unlikely the club would make further additions this month. "It's not really likely," Klopp told a news conference Friday. "Should I say 100 per cent no? But that would kill all the rumours and I don't want to do that. "Come on, we should enjoy it another five days." Liverpool, who are fourth in the Premier League, host West Brom in the FA Cup fourth round Saturday. Klopp said the club had planned for the entire season and had no reason to panic in January. "I can't forget our needs. We have a lot of games to come," he said. "What I don't like about the January transfer window, is that very often it feels like the season is over and we didn't use players in the first half of the season so why do you need them in the second part? "We have to plan a full year and that's what we did."

Germany's Halstenberg likely to miss World Cup with ACL injury
Marcel Halstenberg is a serious doubt for the World Cup after RB Leipzig confirmed the defender has torn his anterior cruciate ligament. The left-back received his first Germany call-up last November, making his international debut in a friendly against England at Wembley. Halstenberg has not played since December after breaking his hand in three places in the process of scoring a Bundesliga goal against Hertha Berlin. And the 26-year-old has now suffered a further injury setback that means his chances of going to Russia 2018 appear to be highly unlikely. #DieRotenBullen defender Marcel #Halstenberg has torn his anterior cruciate ligament and faces several months on the sidelines. Neymar can play with Ronaldo at Real Madrid – Mijatovic
Predrag Mijatovic sees no reason why Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo cannot play together at the Santiago Bernabeu as the former Real Madrid forward heaped praise on the Paris Saint-Germain star. Neymar completed a world-record move to PSG from Barcelona in August last year but the Brazil international has already been linked with Spanish and European champions Madrid. There have been reports that five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo could move in the opposite direction but Mijatovic – who won the Champions League and LaLiga with Madrid – believes Neymar can flourish alongside the Portuguese superstar, just like he did with Lionel Messi at Camp Nou. "Personally, I love Neymar as a player," Mijatovic told Marca. "He has magic and would win over a lot of Real Madrid fans, or almost all of them. "If there was a chance to sign him, I'd be the first person to say yes, but I don't know if it's possible. "If Neymar was able to get on well with Lionel Messi, then there's no reason he couldn't get on well with Ronaldo." Ronaldo has struggled domestically this season, having starred with nine Champions League goals en route to the last 16. The 32-year-old has only scored four goals in 14 LaLiga appearances in 2017-18 amid links with PSG and former club Manchester United and speculation over a new contract. "The situation needs to be well evaluated at the end of this season," Mijatovic said. "These things must be talked about and if he is not happy then he has to say so. "I don't see Ronaldo as being sad in the Champions League, but I do see it in LaLiga. That has nothing to do with his wages. Maybe he's just more motivated by the Champions League."

Jimenez breaks his season duck to lead this week's Heroes & Villains
In the wake of being linked to a move to Club America, Raul Jimenez scored for Benfica. When this season comes to an end, there's enough evidence to suggest that Hirving "Chucky" Lozano, in his first full season in Europe, will be Mexico's best player in the Old World. Players like Carlos Salcedo, Hector Herrera and Andres Guardado will be close behind, but it will be Lozano who will take the prize because of the consistency he has shown so far this term. Players like Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and Hector Moreno have struggled in their battle to win minutes at West Ham and Roma,...

Racing Club raise Lautaro Martinez release clause
Racing Club's Lautaro Martinez has agreed to stay at the Superliga side until the end of the season, with the forward's release clause having been raised. Martinez claimed last year he had an offer to join Real Madrid, while Racing criticised Atletico Madrid in December after the LaLiga club allegedly gave the striker a medical without permission. The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in South American football, earning Argentina youth caps and scoring 13 Superliga goals over the last two seasons. Amid continued speculation linking Martinez with a move to Europe, Racing confirmed on Thursday the player has signed a new contract with the club. "I always said that I wanted to stay and here I am," Martinez said.  "I want to fight for the Copa Libertadores." Racing are mid-table in the Superliga after 12 games, Martinez having scored three goals in his last four games, including in a 2-1 win at leaders Boca Juniors.

Everton 0-2 Man Utd: Brilliant Pogba Display Inspires Red Devils as Martial and Lingard Net
Paul Pogba put in a fantastic man of the match display to help Manchester United towards a comfortable 2-0 win at a rainy Goodison Park. This was a much better showing for the Red Devils than in recent games, their attacking quicker and sharper and their defence rarely troubled. Everton fans, meanwhile, may have hoped for more ambition from manager Sam Allardyce, with the Toffees not showing much attacking intent until they fell behind. The first half was a closely contested affair, with that...
